Services for Tertiary Education Institutions

  • Facilitate workshops and courses for staff
    • Electronic note-taker training
    • Interpreter OOS prevention
    • Staff professional development seminars: Deaf Awareness
  • Work with Disability Services Staff to provide advice and guidance on practical solutions to support Deaf and Hearing Impaired students 
  • Facilitate liaison between Tertiary Education Institutions and NZSL interpreters to match timetables
  • Organise interpreter and note-taker evaluations/appraisals (technical and professional aspects)
  • Provide advice on equipment available to assist students studying
  • Produce and distribute informative brochures/publications (e.g. "Working with Sign Language Interpreters")

Services for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Tertiary Students

  • Facilitate workshops and courses through the Tertiary Education Institutions
    • Examination Preparation Workshop
    • Transitioning Workshop
  • Work directly with students to help meet individual needs and provide advice regarding:
    • support services 
    • note-takers
    • interpreters 
    • scholarships / funding
    • student advocacy 
    • liaising with TEI staff
  • Provide assessment of student’s needs to ensure appropriate resources and support can be accessed.  A good time for assessment is when you are deciding to start tertiary education.
  • Provide information regarding the AUT online support network for students
  • Produce and distribute informative brochures/publications (e.g. "Working with Sign Language Interpreters")
  • Facilitate communication between Tertiary Education Institution staff and the students as required
